Nick gets his goal

Nick Petersen has been doing really well on this camp in the weightroom. PR‘s in Squats, Deadlift, Bench Press etc.

In the shot put circle he has been working hard on getting his technique together as Nick will never lack power. When he is going to get his dream throw in the future it will come because of good technique.

Today was his last session in shot put as we leave tomorrow. The idea was to throw technically well and then build up intensity for long throws at the end of the session. Not foul to much and get some confidence before the indoor season starting in two weeks.

Nick had thrown 18.75m as farthest in practice this year. When we were done with practice today Nick had put the shot 18.87m and I was very happy. I left as I had Gerd waiting fo me on the other side in the discus circle ready to train.

Nick takes of his shirt and goes into the circle and throws one throw after the other. It looked good from distance and the intensity was good and he was loud.

After about ten more throws he got it. Nick comes over to the discus circle and asks me for a tape measure. Comes back 5 minutes later with smile on his face. “Coach I threw 19.06m. “

This little example is what makes some athletes good. THEY REFUSE TO STOP UNTIL THEY ARE HAPPY. They do what needed to get the job done. Continue until it is there. It is called: The WILL.

In full respect to physical ability, technical perfection etc, I think the WILL is the biggest single factor for success in sports. Nick Petersen has it.
